Peter Tessier: Winnipeg Jets- The Paul Maruice Effect There's been some talk about how big an effect Paul Maurice may have on the team this coming season. Here are some issue to consider.

Can Maurice stop pucks ? Other that that I think the Jets have a decent team.

Maurice is an under rated coach.

It's nice to see a coach who can work his players hard, have the players respect, and they really enjoy playing for him.

And I agree, the peg needs a better #1g

I expect Chevy may get a decent pick up when teams have to pare down their rosters. I'm glad he did not over pay for any free agents. Many are free agents for a reason and not necessarily their own choice.

I'd rather seem him give opportunity to the farm allowing players there to see a chance if they work hard and also to allow others young personnel around the league see evidence of opportunity within the organization. Give the farm personnel a chance to prove themselves. If they fail to impress then go outside the organization.

I agree with you about giving the farm a chance to prove themselves. I really like hucthinson and think he'll give palvec all he can handle to hang on to the starters job.

In most organizations Pavelec would have been waived and/or bought out by now. And a guy like Hutchinson would be 3rd on the depth chart. Jets will not be a playoff team until they find a solid starter.

You maybe right about the jets and pavelec, but last year hutch had a .921 Echl, .923 ahl and .943 nhl save percentage. All with winning records, in addition to carrying his team on his back to the ahl finals. I'll take that every day of the week for a guy 3rd on the dept chart.

I hope Chevy doesn't try to interfere too much and tell Maurice to start Pavs when he doesn't deserve it. I have a feeling Noel was getting pushed around by management.

Not sure the coach is the issue here. It's Pavlec who (frank)ing sucks, and Chevy who hasn't found an alternative for his sucky goalie.

Pavs is starting - get over it ... Hutch is there to pick up if Pavs play isn't up to snuff ... quite frankly, Hutch deserves his shot at the bigs after his play in the minors last season and bringing the guy in at the #2 spot is the right path

I have faith in Maurice - remember the mantra when he first arrived "confidence & team defence" ... well, Pistol Pete, from your blog - looks like he's gonna implement the discipline that a team needs to gain that confidence ... and, yes, defence looks to be integral to that discipline

Chevy, Chevy, Chevy - who really knows for sure which players he tried to land (is trying to land) during this offseason ... was he and the organization to conservative ? or was he shutout time and again ? ... we all know he's the GM and whatever constraints exist he has to manage his way through ... I do agree, however, this is his prove-it season

Looking forward to the season - bring it on
